news you might have missed

Abdullah Ahmed Abdullah, a “charter” member of al Qaeda, who is considered to have been the brains behind the attacks on the US embassies in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam on August 7, 1998 was apparently assassinated recently in Tehran, Iran.

He and his daughter Miriam, the widow of Osama bin Laden’s son Hamza, were both shot in their vehicle by assailants on a motorbike.

They were killed on August 7, on the anniversary of the 1998 attacks on the embassies. Maybe this was poetic justice as claimed by an investigator for the Center for Combating Terrorism. The New York Times cites an unnamed official as saying the attacks were carried out by Israel, by that nations Prime Minister’s office has refused to comment on the matter.
